Now Boarding privacy
Short version: your flights stay on your device and in your own iCloud. Some flight details are sent to look up live status, and the free version shows ads from Google, which may use device data to show and measure ads. Your flights are never shared with advertisers. Buying Remove Ads turns the ad code off completely.
Flights you log
The flights, notes and photos you add are stored on your device. If you use iCloud, they may also sync through your private iCloud account, which I can't access.
Calendar, camera and photos
- Calendar: with your permission, Now Boarding reads your calendars on your device to find flights. Your calendar isn't uploaded.
- Camera: used only to scan the barcode on a boarding pass. Scanning happens on your device.
- Photos: used to show the photos you took on each flight. Photos aren't uploaded.
- Imported confirmations: booking details you paste or share into the app are read on your device.
Live flight updates
To show live status, Now Boarding sends a flight's number and date to its flight-status service, which looks them up with a flight data provider (AeroDataBox). When you follow a flight on the Lock Screen, the service also receives a token from Apple that lets it update that card. Tokens are used only to send those updates. The service doesn't receive your name, account or the rest of your flight history.
Sharing with friends
If you invite friends, Now Boarding uses Apple's iCloud sharing to share your flights with the people you invite. Only the route, date, times and flight number are shared, never confirmation codes, seats, gates, prices, notes or family members' flights. You can stop sharing at any time.
Ads
The free version shows banner ads from Google AdMob. Google may collect information such as device identifiers, IP address, approximate location and how you interact with ads, to show and measure ads and prevent fraud. Where required, the app asks for your consent first, and iOS asks whether to allow tracking. Your choice is respected either way. Google's use of this data is covered by Google's privacy policy.
Purchases
Remove Ads is sold through Apple. I don't see or store your payment details.
Children
Now Boarding isn't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Deleting your data
Delete a flight in the app to remove it from your device and your iCloud. Deleting the app removes the data stored on your device.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
